Nice augmentation. I also saw your Model based tracking for car wheels which is based on VisionLib SDK. Do you think combining Vuforia VuMark tracking and Vuforia Model tracking in one Unity scene is possable?
There has been a discussion in year 2013 on Vuforia Developer Portal regrading User defined Targets and Image Targets in the same Unity scene which was not passable to run. I tried but also ca not get it to work.
Hello.
It’s really hard to tell, I haven’t tried combining. But you wan’t to use both at the same time, not separately switch trackings?

Yes, I have to use the User defined Target as a fallback in case of Image target is not detected.
I really don’t understand what you mean by that.
If for example a model or image target is not recognized (due to bad environment conditions like bright or low light), the user should get the possibility to enable augmentation anyway. Hence he should be able to start User Defined Targets to track he scene and start augmentation.
That’s not entirely correct, how User Defined Target work. When you talk about User Defined Target you probably think more of a SLAM technique (which is more of what ARKit and ARCore offers), but this is not correct. With UDT you just can do the snapshot in real-time and augmented the content without predefined Vuforia image database.
In Vuforia you can enable or disable SLAM for all kind of Target Type independent of Type. So there exists Model Target with or without SLAM, UDT with or without SLAM. Image targets with or ….
The Question is if it is posable to have more than one target type in one scene. E.g. if Model target fails to be detect the user could press a Button that grabs a snapshot and augment the content to the current scene. For example for your car wheel demo: If it fails the user could align the wheel, presses the UDT Button, a snapshot of car with weel ist taken and the content will be shown attached to snapshotr. Of cuse it will not work for the next car. But at least or this one.
Extended tracking is not SLAM.
The Question is if it is posable to have more than one target type in one scene. E.g. if Model target fails to be detect the user could press a Button that grabs a snapshot and augment the content to the current scene. – this would depend on the environment itself it would not work 100% in all cases.
The Question is not if it might detect the snapshot – that may depend on environment – the question is if it is passable by Vuforia Sdk. As I already mentioned in former versions of Vuforia sdk either nothing worked at all or the application just crash. But you already gave your answer with the first reply “I haven’t tried combining”. May be this would be a challenge for you to get it to work…
Alteranative model Targetcs could be used but again I need UDT as fallback
in fact they dont have to work at same time because the one is the fallback. But they should be in the same scene!
Hello,
I work for the Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg, based in Cottbus and at the moment in COCKPIT 4.0, a research project for innovative automation solutions for small series assembly in the aviation industry.
Searching for a solution I found your tutorials and I would like to discuss further with you.
